Peacock is a new streaming service by NBC Universal. Peacock offers over 7000 hours of programming, and while it does offer original content such as Rutherford Falls and oldies like Saved By The Bell, The Office, Suits, Downton Abbey, Kardashians, Young Rock, Equalizer and newer shows like Code 404, The Capture and Hitmen. It also has movies from studios such as DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, and, of course, Universal Pictures as well as a whole bundle of premier sports.
Peacock has is only available in the US. It has a premium service as well as a FREE service but you can not stream outside of the USA OR can you!....
We have tested three of our Guardian Routers loaded with various VPNs to see what one can successfully stream Peacock TV to any country outside of the USA.....
We decided we would test a 'budget', a 'mid-range' and a 'top-end' Router so we plumped for the Netgear R6300v2 as budget, Netgear R7000 as mid-range' and the Linksys WRT32x for the 'top-end' Router.
We started with the Netgear R6300v2, loaded it with Surfshark VPN and hit the Peacock TV website where we was presented with rather nice 'Join Now' page rather than the rather drab and disappointing 'this service is unavailable in your region' page we had seen without the Guardian Router connected...
Registration took seconds with profiles automatically set up...
And we were away and streaming.......
Spoilt for choice we opted to use a 'Peacock Exclusive' for our tests - My Son
We repeated this with the Netgear R7000 and the Linksys WRT32x and tested other major VPN providers...
We tested each Guardian Router with Surfshark, Nord, Express, PIA, Ivacy and IPVanish. Surfshark was the only VPN that was not detected by Peacock, all the others displayed a rather disappointing error page...
So with only Surfshark working we moved on to test the other Guardian Routers.....
The 'budget' the Netgear R6300v2 performed well with Surfshark. The stream was solid, took a little while to load but once loaded we didn't suffer any buffering. The slightly slow stream loading time was put down to the processing power of the R6300v2.
The mid-range Netgear R7000 performed much better. The stream loaded quicker than the R6300v2 and again no buffering and we able to 'fast forward' with only a slight delay in catch up time for the stream
Finally the 'top-end' and our favourite Guardian Router, the Linksys WRT32x with Surfshark, that never fails to impress. The stream loaded instantly, we had no buffering , fast forward was instant with hardly any catch up time and Peacock must have sensed the extra speed the WRT32x had and served up a higher quality stream!
