Why You Need A 'Guardian' ExpressVPN Router If You Have An ExpressVPN Account

We get many questions about our Guardian ExpressVPN Routers and the new 'Lightway' protocol that offers enhanced VPN speeds while providing FIPS 140-2 standard cryptography for a rock solid, always on, secure connection.

What is Lightway?

Lightway is ExpressVPN’s pioneering new VPN protocol, built for an always-on world. It makes your VPN experience speedier, more secure, and more reliable than ever. Designed to be light on its feet, Lightway runs faster, uses less processing power, and is easier to audit and maintain.

A VPN protocol forms the foundation of a VPN service, shaping every aspect of your experience. Most providers use the same off-the-shelf protocols, but now ExpressVPN has engineered its own: Lightway and is available on ALL Guardian Express VPN Routers.

Why do I need the Guardian ExressVPN Router?

1. Enjoy 24/7 VPN Protection on ALL connected devices

Save time with always-on protection. With a Guardian ExpressVPN Router, you'll never have to remember to connect. Any device connected to Wi-Fi or LAN is protected, and the built in Network Lock kill switch ensures security even if your VPN connection drops.

2. Covers all devices

Get the benefits of Express VPN on any connected device, even ones that can’t normally run VPN software like Smart TVs, MAG boxes, Amazon Fire Sticks, Zgemma boxes and game consoles. Access all the services that you want with greater privacy and protect your gaming from DoS and DDoS attacks.

3. Unlimited connections Your Guardian ExpressVPN Router counts as one out of the five devices that you can connect to ExpressVPN simultaneously on a single subscription, and there’s no limit to the number of devices connected to a Guardian ExpressVPN VPN router!

4. Optimized for speed The ExpressVPN router app runs Lightway, Express next-generation VPN protocol that gives you a faster, more reliable and more secure VPN experience.

5. Easy to use Say goodbye to confusing settings—just click to connect. Want certain devices excluded from the VPN? No problem. Split tunneling gives you complete control.

VPN split tunneling lets you route some of your device traffic through the encrypted VPN tunnel while other devices access the internet directly.

Use split tunneling to protect the traffic you choose, without losing access to local network devices.

There are many models of Guardian ExpressVPN Routers - Which one is the fastest?

The key to running a fast VPN is to look at the CPU spec. The CPU has to decrypt the VPN traffic so the faster the CPU the faster the VPN will be. Our budget models such as the Netgear R6300v2 800MHZ CPU and although they will run the Express VPN and Lightway whilst protecting all of your connected devices they won't run as fast as our top spec routers like the LInksys WRT3200ACM that has Dual Core 1800MHZ CPUs.

We advise you always invest as much as you can afford on getting a router with a fast CPU. We have tested the Linksys WRT3200ACM using Lightway and have achieved speeds touching 300Mbps! - more than enough speed to stream IPTV and play on-line gaming....
